With my impending departure for Ireland, I've become quite excited with all the different traveling prospects I have in mind for next year. I want to make the most of my time in Europe and take advantage of how easy it is to travel from one country to the other. As I was trying to fall asleep the other night (I'm having a harder and harder time as the 27th approaches), I thought about doing a photographic scavenger hunt. Since today is our second snow day of the year (hurray!), it seemed like the perfect time to get it started. Basically, I'm searching for photos of all the different places I plan on visiting (Scotland, Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, England...) and I save pictures that I like so that when I do make it to those places, I'll have to try and find the exact same spot where the photographer was so that I can recreate that picture. I cannot wait to get started! Here are a few pictures I found that I will try to recreate...

Seriously! How cool is this clothing rack? This (add and adjective here...I'm going to go with genius) blogger ended up with this beautiful hanging clothing rack after finding this random branch on the side of the road. You can find her blog, LOVE AESTHETICS by clicking on the link. All I have to say is that the first thing I do when I get to Ireland, is look for a branch so that I can build this in my apartment! All credit for the idea and the photos goes to the writer of the blog, Ivania Carpio.

Well there is no denying... Winter is coming. Sure, I can kick and scream all I want, but it'll be here soon nonetheless, so might as well make the best of it! One thing that sure makes up for the cold is the fact that we get to dress up with warm and comfy clothes! Plus, this year, I find there are so many cute styles going on, I can hardly be upset at winter any longer. Sure thinking of the snow, the cold, the wind, etc. makes me want to run and hide under my bed sheets until spring comes along, but then I think of fireplaces, hot chocolate and warm snuggles, and suddenly, winter doesn't seem so bad. So here are a few must-haves (in my opinion) for this winter to keep you cute and warm, all season long.

Where does time go? What happens to those minutes that you don't see go by? Why is it that, when you're waiting for something, time takes forever? However, when you want to enjoy certain moments, it flies away from you faster than you can turn around?
Right now, I'm in a bit of a time related dilemma.
It's finally happening. I'm moving to Europe. All my life, I've been waiting for this. Every step I took and every choice I made got me here, at this point in time. I am so incredibly excited about this. On the 28th of December, I will be setting foot in Europe and I will start this new, big adventure. This is the part where I'm waiting for something and time feels like a slow and motionless thing.
However, I realized that while I'm constantly looking forward that faithful day, I'm not living in the present. I'm not taking the time (again with the word) to simply stop and smell the flowers. I'm not taking the time to enjoy the few weeks I have left with my parents, my family, my friends, my colleagues, my students... And it's in this moment of realization that it comes to mind : I don't have six weeks until I leave. I ONLY have six weeks until I leave.
Months have already come and gone and soon, it will only be a matter of days. For the next few weeks, until my flight over-seas, I am going to make an effort to live in the moment, in the present. We never know what can happen, so we should live every second as if it's our last.
If I would have known my relationship would be over after almost 8 years, maybe I would have done a few things differently: I would appreciate our time spent together more, I would have said "I love you" more often, I would have paused everything to simply enjoy the little moments, those small instants in time that makes a bad day brighter, that makes everything shinny and that makes you believe in all those love songs.
However, as dangerous as it is to live for a future when you're not actually living in the present, it is just as bad to live in the past. You can't have a better future by reliving the past; you have a better future by learning from it and moving on. However, when you're not enjoying the present, how can you learn the lesson that you are supposed to learn?
As you can see, I'm feeling a bit philosophical today. However, this post is my pledge to live in the moment, to enjoy every minute of everyday. Yes, I am excited about moving to Europe and I am allowed to feel that way. However, I will stop waiting for that day to come: It will be here soon enough. Until it gets here, I will spend even more time with my loved ones. I will take some time for myself. I will read. I will go to the gym. I will have fun with my students. I will laugh. I will dance. I will live.
And now, with that being said, I have to go. I have some people to see and talk to...

2012 has been a year of change. While most changes were for the best, some were still sad to see happen. Let's recap...
I
started the year teaching an 8th grade class. While I enjoyed it and
was grateful to have a teaching job, I had realized that I was not meant
to teach "older" kids. I decided to talk about it to the administration
office of the school. They were understanding and quite helpful, and I
managed to get transferred to a kindergarten class. Best. Move. Ever! I
could now use my creativity in a whole new way and use imagination and
magic as a way to teach. I listened to what my heart was telling me, I
acted on it, and since then, I was so much happier in my career.
In
March, my best friend and I finally bought our tickets to go to Europe
for the summer. We had been talking about for months and it had always
been a dream of mine to travel overseas. We planned our whole 5weeks
there and it ended being the best time of my life. So much so that I
ended staying an extra week! Europe changed me (again with the word
change) for the best. Especially my last two weeks, where I was be
myself. It was so empowering to know that I only had to rely on myself
and that I succeeded being away on my own. It gave me a whole other view
of the world. I explained it to my family this way: When I started
university, it's as if a veil came off my eyes. But when I went to
Europe, I was finally able to open my eyes and see. There is so much to
see and experience in this world and I can't wait to do it all!
In
June, I got the news that I probably wasn't going to teach another full
year at the school where I was, since there wasn't enough positions.
However, there was a long term placement from September to Christmas,
and that if there wasn't any other offer, I could take it. Needless to
say that I was quite sad about the news. However, I am a big believer in
the philosophy that everything happens for a reason. We may not know
the reason right away, but it becomes clearer after a while. For me, it
became easier to see after my trip to Europe. You see, another dream of mine has always been to
live in there. Once I came back, it was clear to me that I had to go
back right away. When I left Europe, it was as if a part of me stayed
there. It was actually a bit scary, because I've never felt this way
about anywhere. Not even here, I don't fully feel at home. I fell in love with the European Martine.
I was so at peace with myself and I simply felt like I was finally
where I belong, which is why I've made the decision to go back, right
after Christmas. I accepted the long term placement, so I will be
teaching in kindergarten until Christmas vacations, and then I will
leave again for Europe for at least a year. If I had gotten a full year
position, I wouldn't have been able to do this.
Since I
got back from Europe, I'm all about finding happiness. My mission now
is to be at peace with myself, to be happy and to enjoy life to the
fullest. I now take time to do things for myself, things that bring my joy. I've
bought myself a ukulele about three weeks ago and I simply love it! I've
already learned many songs and I'm beginning to get rid of my shyness
of performing musically in from of other people. Soon, I will be able to
sing (another dream of mine) in front of others. Also, yesterday, I received my license to teach Zumba. Another change for the best! All these changes (big or small) are bringing me towards happiness. Happiness is something that only you can find for yourself.
This is why you have to go for what you want. Dream it. Plan it. Do it.
No one else knows what you need in order to be happy. You're the one
living your life and only you can bring the changes you want to see.
So
yes, many has happened this year and many changes have yet to come. I'm
trying to keep a positive eye open so that I can see the good side of
things. I've had so many life lessons lately and I can't help but be
excited about what is going to be happening in the future.
